About Ceramics

Ceramic has evolved significantly in recent years and today offers an extraordinary variety. Thanks to modern technologies, surfaces are created that convincingly replicate natural materials such as stone, wood or concrete, while handcrafted pieces with their irregularity and authenticity bring warmth and character. This interplay of technical innovation and traditional craftsmanship opens up an almost limitless range of styles and modes of expression, making ceramic one of the most exciting materials in contemporary design.

For residential projects, ceramic impresses with its durability, ease of maintenance and versatility. Whether in the kitchen, bathroom or living area – it is practical, long-lasting and at the same time aesthetically adaptable to a wide range of uses.

  • Ceramic bricks are thicker, three-dimensional tile formats that bring texture and depth to a surface — popular for feature walls, kitchen splashbacks and architectural interiors. They create a very different effect from standard flat tiles and are a signature format in the Mutina collection. Hochwert Library has samples in the showroom so you can see the scale and texture in person.

  • At the Hochwert Library showroom, Rotbuchstrasse 83, 8037 Zurich. Visits are by appointment only. The first consultation is free — bring your project dimensions, any mood images and your questions.

  • Measure your surface area in square metres and add a waste allowance of 10–15% for cuts, breakages and future repairs. For diagonal layouts or complex patterns, budget 15–20% extra. Always order everything from the same production batch — colour can vary slightly between batches. Hochwert Library helps you calculate quantities precisely once you have your dimensions.

  • Very often yes. Bring a photo, a reference or a product name to your consultation and Hochwert Library will work to identify or source the closest match through its supplier network. If it's a Mutina product, Hochwert Library is the direct contact in Zurich. For other brands, the team can advise on alternatives from the collection that achieve the same effect.

  • Designer tiles from brands like Mutina cost more than mass-market alternatives — but the gap is less dramatic than people often assume, especially when you factor in the longevity, quality and the fact that tiles are a fixed cost spread over decades of use. In a bathroom of 10–15sqm, the difference between a standard tile and a Mutina tile is often a few hundred francs in total — a small percentage of the overall renovation budget. Hochwert Library can give you accurate pricing for any collection.
