Project: From Alpine Quarry to Urban Space
Recently, we had the opportunity to visit a project we supplied last year in Seebach, Zürich. Seeing a completed project in its final state is always special, especially when the material choice plays such a defining role in the overall architectural expression.
Designed by Dachtler Partner Architekten and executed by Hänni AG, this contemporary condominium building features Andeer Gneis in a brushed finish throughout its public areas. From the flooring to the staircases, the natural stone creates a cohesive and refined atmosphere that immediately stands out upon entering the building. The subtle green tones bring a sense of calm and balance, while the brushed surface enhances the natural texture of the stone.
Andeer Gneis is quarried in the village of Andeer at the foot of the San Bernardino Pass and is one of the most well-known natural stones in Switzerland. Its durability and frost resistance make it suitable for both interior and exterior applications, particularly in high-traffic areas such as entrances and staircases. At the same time, it can also be used for kitchen countertops, fireplaces, or vanity tops, highlighting its versatility.
In recent years, green tones have become increasingly popular in architecture and interior design. In this context, Andeer Gneis is experiencing a strong renaissance. This project shows how a traditional material can be used in a contemporary way—resulting in a space that feels both timeless and relevant.
